- About the Programme
This programme has been designed to provide students with a firm grounding in communication skills. It aims to develop an ability for critical thinking and creativity and to give the students an opportunity to combine the theoretical curriculum with practical applications, through detailed research, lucid writing skills, oral presentation skills and a mastery of various mass communications media in our global information age.
This programme will prepare students to work across more than one area in the rapidly expanding world of media and corporate communication. It provides key technological skills and knowledge for work in corporate media and communication fields, as well as an understanding of issues and debates concerning media, communication and information.
BA (JMC) students can proceed to Master in Mass Communication (MMC). The broad expertise and skills gained through Mass Communication ensures excellent careers for the graduates even in other professions besides Media. Various employment areas for them are Blogs, Radio Telecasting Companies, Websites, Central Information Service, Advertising Agencies, Broadcasting Corporations, Legal Affairs Department, Photography Companies, Press Information Bureau, Periodicals and Magazines, etc. Some government organizations that offer candidates who have completed Mass Communication programmes are All India Radio (AIR), Doordarshan, Rajbhasha Department in Human Resources Development Ministry, etc.
Students will undergo a rigorous On-the-Job Training (OJT) in the fifth semester for about eight weeks. Efforts will be made to find opportunities for this outside Patna. All expenses of such training will be met by the students.
The programme is also a foundation stone for future careers in Media Law.

Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication, BA(JMC), is a field of study that is creative, interesting and lucrative. A person who studies Journalism and Mass Communication today, has multiple career options to choose from. Especially in the present digital era.
The first option is Journalism. One can become a print journalist, a TV journalist or a digital journalist.
With the same skill sets, one can even go on to become Content Writers. The demand for content writing is growing exponentially every day.
The third option is Advertising, the communication arm of a successful business enterprise as well as the government. Advertising is all pervading, omnipresent. Every organisation, private or government, profit oriented or non-profit oriented (NGOs/INGOs), political parties, public figures, celebrities, need advertising. It is an exciting, creative and dynamic field.
The fourth option is Public Relations. Today, Public Relation is considered a strategic and intrinsic part of successful organisations.
The fifth option is Digital or Social Media Marketing. With the digital boom, this is another fast-growing area with more demand for trained professionals.
The sixth option is Films. This also includes Television serials, programmes for OTT platforms and other streaming services. The course covers film production, scriptwriting, cinematography, and editing.
The seventh option, after covid now that our economy has opened up, is that of Event Management. There are going to be increased opportunities and need for trained professionals to manage events of every scale.
The eighth option is Media Management. Every media house is a business organization which needs to be run smoothly and profitably. The BA(JMC) course develops an understanding of management principles tailored, keeping in mind the special requirements of a Media Organization.
The BA(JMC) degree does not just raise your employability quotient but also hones your creativity, develops your analytical skills, expands your language and communication skills, polishes your personality and evolve you in to an informed, alert and aware citizen of the country.
